On 22nd, former National Assembly Secretary General Yoo In-tae said about Jae-myeong Lee, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, that “The prosecution’s indictment of this leader proves his innocence”. On the same day, in an interview with CBS Radio, Yoo said, “The indictment based on the presumption of guilt shows that this leader is being oppressed by the prosecution. It looks like a pressure against the powerless.” Last day the prosecution issued an arrest warrant for the leader on charges of bribery and third-party bribery, but did not issue one for ‘the charge of agreement of 42.8 billion won’, which would have stated that the leader got financial benefits from the agent at Daejeong Dong. Yoo also said, “Going to the court could even prove the leader’s achievements in Seongnam against him” and, “Isn’t that enough that no restitution was made from the public”. Moreover, Yoo said that if a second arrest warrant is presented to the National Assembly, “(An effective warrant) should be reviewed” meaning that the non-arrest privilege should be given up. “Even the lawyers say the chance of (the warrant) being rejected is quite high”, he continued, “Wouldn’t it increase the support rating of the leader and his party if he stands up bravely?”
